WELCOME

Welcome to my website - feel free to look around.
Here's a guide to some of the different sections of the site:

Demos: This section contains audio clips and information about the different groups I perform with (including me as a solo guitarist), in case you're interested in hiring me, or if you just want to hear what I sound like in different gig situations.

Compositions: this section is mainly audio clips of samples of some of my different musical compositions in different styles.

Articles: this section consists of educational material I've put together, and may be changed from time to time, so be sure to check back occasionally if you find anything useful here.

Recordings: This section contains audio clips of commercially available recordings of mine and links to places to purchase them from via the internet.

Confessions:This section's full name is "Confessions of a Stupid Guitarist." There are two parts: Part one is an essay I wrote in the summer of 1996 concerning my frustrations at the time with the issue of finding my own musical voice. In the time since I've had the essay up on the site I've been amazed at the response I've received from other musicians who have been able to relate to the essay because they've grappled with the same problems themselves. It seems to help people to know that someone else has gone through all the same stuff, and it has certainly helped me to know how many other people this essay strikes a familiar chord with.
"Confessions part 2" is a recap of my experiences with these same issues in the last few years (including some ideas and suggestions for developing one's own voice, dealing with stage fright, ect.)

8 STRING PAGES

You all know I just can't get enough strings on my guitar, so here's a section for all of you who really want to know stuff like "why are the frets all crooked?" and "what exactly are you trying to compensate for with the extra strings?"

PERFORMANCES / NEWS

I have finally entered the 21st century and gotten my own MySpace page. Check it out below; hours of fun for the whole family:

  • Stop the Presses! New Articles!

I have finally managed to put up a couple of new things on the articles page. It only took me, what, five years or something?

    FIU Audition information
A new page giving audition information for students wishing to audition for FIU's jazz guitar program.
Unfortunately, due to the financial meltdown of Florida's education system, some big cuts have been instituted at FIU, and at least for the moment, there is little or no space for new jazz guitar students.

    Melodic Minor Harmony
A long treatise (in pdf format), with plenty of notated examples, about the ins and outs of the melodic minor scale and its use in jazz. This was developed for use with my jazz improv II class at Miami/Dade college.
